Looking for a way to serve your community and make real connections? Volunteer with the St. Mary’s County AARP Tax-Aide program! You’ll get training, support, and a chance to grow—all while offering free tax help to those who need it most. Be part of a team that cares! AARP Tax-Aide volunteers provide free tax preparation services to eligible taxpayers. Volunteers must be comfortable using a computer, use email and text messaging, commit to learning new skills, and be willing to ask questions. We begin classroom training in January and tax preparation in February.

Visit one of the nation's best-preserved, one-room African American schoolhouses the first and third Saturday of each month from April to October and on Juneteenth. Check out the restored schoolhouse and learn about its rich history and importance to education in St. Mary's County. Check out a special performance by The 8th Green Machine Regiment Band, on Sunday April 26th on the Grounds of St. Clements Island Museum. They are an early American brass band that performs 19th-century brass band music and will be performing for he Black Diamond American Civil War Wreath Laying Ceremony. The band performs on authentic 19th-century instruments and mouthpieces. A number of the instruments used by the band feature an Over-the-Shoulder (OTS) bell direction. This design was utilized so that a band could march in front of soldiers and be heard by the troops. This extremely talented group will perform around 2:30 p.m. following the official Black Diamond American Civil War wreath laying ceremony (2:00 p.m.) at St. Clement's Island Museum. The Southern Maryland Bluegrass Concert Series is winding down with the highly anticipated performance by The Kody Norris Show.
